According to a survey by comparedownload.com:

A male from the UK on average owns 292 music albums, 49% of respondents admitted to illegal downloads and say more than 50% of their music collections consists of pirated music.

A UK woman owns on average 221 albums. Only 29% admitted to illegal downloads.

Wow that’s a lot of music! These high numbers are probably because CDs are cheaper in the UK than here in SA.

This makes me wonder:

How many music albums do South Africans own?

How many of these are original CDs

Admittedly, I don’t have a big CD collection. I usually just listen to the radio or pod-casts… and sometimes I put the songs from my CDs onto my mp3 player.

I also think it’s pretty cool that you can download albums directly from the artist these days, which makes it cool if you can play mp3s, but don’t have a CD player. I haven’t done this yet, but I think I might do this next time, instead of buying CDs, especially when it comes to rare albums or ones that aren’t available in SA stores
