Jake Gyllenhaal was born in Los Angeles, USA on 19 December 1980. Jake made his debut in City Slickers (1991)  He is perhaps best known for his tile role in Donnie Darko (2001)

Ryan Gosling was born on 12 November 1980 in London, Ontario, Canada.  Ryan made his debut in Frankenstein and Me (1996). He is perhaps best know for the role of Noah in The Notebook (2004)

I think both of these guys are incredibly talented, they are two of my favourite actors. They both often choose off-beat roles and they’re the same age, so think they’re a good face-off.

Gael Garcia Bernal was born on 30 November 1978 in Guadalajara, Mexico. His first major feature film was Amores Perros (2000). He is a very talented young actor and also played the role of Che Guevara in The Motorcycle Diaries (2004).

Benicio Del Torro was born on 19 February 1967 in Santurce, Puerto Rico. His big screen debut was in Big Top Pee-wee (1988). He somewhat looks like a Latino version of Brad Pitt. At 21 he was the youngest ever Bond villain in Licence to Kill (1989).

Nicolas Kim Coppola was born on 7 January 1964 in Long Beach, California. He is the nephew of the well-known Hollywood director Francis Ford Coppola. In order to achieve success without having to use the family name, Nicolas chose “Cage” for his stage name.

He made his film debut in a bit part in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), which was cut from the movie.

Despite his sometimes eccentric, flamboyant and quirky roles, Nick Cage is a A-list Hollywood actor. On 31 July 1998 he received his star on the “Hollywood walk of fame”.

For his role in Leaving Las Vegas he won the best actor Oscar, Golden Globe, and several other awards and nominations. He also received several nods for his work in Adaptation as well as several other roles.

For his performances in The Wicker Man and Ghost Rider he received worst actor nominations for the Razzie award.

Cage has also directed a movie about a gigolo, called Sonny (2002)

Nicolas Cage is certainly an interesting character and is one of those actors who are able to act with their eyes. I will probably get more of his movies the next time I buy DVDs.

Patrick Swayze passed away yesterday, 14 September 2009, after battling pancreatic cancer. Swayze is best known for his roles in Dirty Dancing (1987) and Ghost (1990).

Patrick was born on 18 August 1952 in Houston, Texas to Patsy and Jesse Swayze. Patrick was the eldest son and had two brothers and two sisters. His mother had a dance school.

At the age of 19 he met one of his mother’s dance students, Lisa Niemi, who was 15 at the time. They got married in 1975. The marriage lasted until the time of his death, but produced no offspring.

In 1972 Patrick moved to New York to attend the Harkness Ballet and Joffrey ballet schools.

After doing some theatre work, including the role of Danny in Grease, he made his film debut in Skatetown, USA (1979). After a couple of years of film and television work he had his big break in Dirty Dancing.

After his brother’s death in 1982 Swayze battled with alcoholism. After his sister’s suicide in 1994, he decided to seek help for his addiction.

In January 2008 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer for which he received chemotherapy. In January 2009 it seemed that the cancer had spread to his liver and he was also hospitalised for pneumonia. The pneumonia might have been a side effect from the chemo.

His singing and dancing talents and natural athletic ability made him an all-round versatile actor. He has definitely made a mark on the pop culture of the 90s. I think I’ll watch Ghost on DVD tonight.

Jacob Benjamin Gyllenhaal was born on 19 December 1980, in Los Angeles, California. He made his film debut in City Slickers (1991) and had a lead role in October Sky(1998).  The lead role in the  cult-classic Donnie Darko (2001) earned him rave reviews and can be seen as his big break. Since seeing Jake as Donnie, he has been my favourite actor.

He was nominated for the Academy Award (Oscar) and won the BAFTA for his performance in  Brokeback Mountain.  His performance also earned him several other awards and nominations.

Jake’s father Stephen Gyllenhaal is a Hollywood producer and his mom Naomi Foner is a screenwriter. His sister Maggie is also a well-know actress so I think it’s safe to say he was born into show business.

Jake Gyllenhaal is once of the best young actors in Hollywood. I’m sure he will have a long a lucrative career ahead of him.

I have several of his movies on DVD. Even though new DVD are cheap at the moment you might still be able to find secondhand DVDs cheaper in the classifieds.
