She received a BA degree in Fine Arts from the School of the Performing Arts at Boston University. She changed her name to Julianne Moore when she registered with SAG (Screen Actors’ Guild) and her own name was already taken.

After graduating in 1983 she moved to New York where she worked in theatre. During the mid 80s she appeared in several  soap operas and mini-series on TV.  In 1988 she won a Daytime Emmy for her role in “As the World Turns.”

Julianne made her film debut in Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (1990) and she had her first leading role in the movie Safe (1995). She then starred in the romantic comedy Nine Months (1995) alongside Hugh Grant.

She has received Oscar nominations for best actress in a leading role in Far From Heaven (2002) and The End of The Affair (1999), as well as best supporting actress nominations for The Hours (2002) and Boogie Nights (1997). She has received 2 BAFTA nominations and 3 Golden Globe nominations. She shared a Golden Globe award for the “best ensemble cast” with her cast-mates from Short Cuts (1993).

She received a People’s Choice Awards nomination for being the Favourite Female Movie Star in 2005.

Julianne Moore, is a remarkable, talented actress. She has made some interesting choices in her career. I think tonight I will watch one of her movies on DVD.

Kate Elizabeth Winslet was born on 5 October 1975 in Reading, Berkshire, England.  Both her parents were stage actors.  She made her big screen debut in the indie movie Heavenly Creatures (1994).  Her big break was the female lead (Rose) in Titanic (1997), which made her famous worldwide.

Amongst many other awards and nominations She has been nominated for an Academy Award several times. In 2009 she won the Oscar for her leading role in The Reader. She also won a BAFTA for this performance.   Each award she received was well deserved.

Kate Winslet is of the best actresses of her generation and #2 on my lists of favourite actresses.  I have several of her movies in my DVD collection and I am hoping to add more.
